Today, as we mark Mother’s Day—a day to celebrate love, resilience, and the immeasurable strength of women—it is important to remember that for many mothers and daughters in Cambodia, this day also carries pain, fear, and silence. Domestic violence continues to be a widespread issue across the region, often hidden behind cultural taboos and underreported due to stigma and lack of support systems. In Cambodia, the Cambodia Demographic and Health Survey (CDHS) 2021–22 found that nearly one in five women aged 15–49 has experienced violence by an intimate partner. These are not just statistics—they represent lives interrupted, families broken, and futures stolen. Many women, and young girls like the ten-year-old featured in the Colours of Hope 2025 campaign, suffer in silence, often with their closest family members aware but feeling powerless to act.
It is in this context that Angkor Art Gallery has launched Colours of Hope 2025, an initiative designed not only to raise funds, but to spark crucial awareness on domestic violence. The Italian Business Chamber Cambodia (ItaCham) is proud to support this campaign, which will direct 100% of net proceeds to the Cambodia Women’s Crisis Centre (CWCC). This local organization has long been at the forefront of the fight to protect and assist victims, offering shelter, legal aid, psychosocial support, and reintegration services. Their work saves lives—but like many grassroots organizations, they rely on partnerships and community involvement to sustain their impact.
For ItaCham, this is not an isolated gesture but part of a broader commitment to contribute meaningfully to Cambodian society. As a chamber that not only connects businesses but also champions shared values between Italy and Cambodia, ItaCham leverages the power of education, culture, and art as a way to address social challenges. Visual storytelling and cultural engagement allow important messages to resonate more deeply with the public, opening space for reflection, empathy, and, ultimately, meaningful action. Supporting Colours of Hope 2025 is an example of how art can be more than aesthetic—it can be a force for change, giving voice to the unheard and visibility to the unseen.
On this Mother’s Day, we are reminded that celebrating mothers also means protecting them. It means standing in solidarity with those who are hurting, and ensuring that no woman or child has to suffer in silence. The symbolism of launching this campaign today is powerful: where there is love, there must be safety; where there is motherhood, there must be dignity. Whether through a donation, buying a piece of art, a visit to the exhibition, or simply sharing the message, each action can help build a society where survivors are supported and violence is no longer tolerated.
