Your Italian Connection in Cambodia!

Spazio e Apsara: ARTEMIS Scienza

ItaCham celebration for the Italian Space Day 2024, from last December, has appeared on an Italian cultural magazine: ARTEMIS Scienza.

Cambodia, often overshadowed by its neighbors Thailand and Vietnam, is a country rich in history, myths, and legends. Its capital, Phnom Penh, holds a deep historical and cultural significance, from its founding legend involving a sacred tree and Buddha statues to its colonial past and rapid modern development.

In December 2024, Cambodia witnessed its first-ever Italian Space Day, an event organized by the Italian Business Chamber Cambodia (ItaCham) in collaboration with CamEd Business School. The three-day event featured discussions on space technology, education, and investment opportunities between Italy and Cambodia.

Experts from the University of Trieste presented the RISE project, which simplifies small satellite assembly using 3D printing and has been tested on the International Space Station. Italian companies like NPlus and MEEO showcased their innovations in structural monitoring and remote sensing. Cambodian institutions, including the Institute of Technology of Cambodia (ITC) and the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications, shared insights into the country’s growing space initiatives.

A highlight of the event was the fusion of space and culture, symbolized by the theme “The Space Apsara”—connecting celestial myths, science, and technology. Traditional Khmer dancers, adorned with symbolic crowns, performed alongside space-themed exhibits, bridging Italy’s space excellence with Cambodia’s artistic heritage.

The event underscored the potential for future collaborations in education, technology, and investment, setting the stage for Italy and Cambodia to explore new frontiers—both in space and on Earth.

ItaCham continues to foster meaningful collaboration projects between Cambodia and Italy, facilitating trade, fostering business opportunities, and organize cultural events that explore the similarities while fostering deeper connections between the two countries.
