ItaCham Showcases Cambodia’s Role at the 9th ASEAN–Italy Economic Dialogue – The European House Ambrosetti

The 9th High Level Dialogue on ASEAN–Italy Economic Relations, held last week in Ho Chi Minh City, marked another important step in strengthening ties between Italy and the dynamic economies of Southeast Asia. Bringing together forty-four speakers and more than five hundred delegates from nine countries, the forum confirmed its role as one of the most authoritative platforms for strategic discussion between Italian institutions, businesses, and ASEAN partners. What has made this initiative so influential over the years is its ability to combine high-level governmental participation with concrete business-oriented dialogue, offering a space where political vision meets practical opportunities.

Promoted by The European House–Ambrosetti and endorsed by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the Dialogue continues to reflect Italy’s long-term commitment to ASEAN as a strategic region for economic cooperation, trade diversification, and sustainable development. The presence of ItaCham Chairman Gabriele Faja and Vice Chairman Riccardo Corrado added further relevance from the Cambodian–Italian business community, highlighting how chambers of commerce in the region play an increasingly active role in connecting local enterprises with Italian counterparts. Their contributions underscored the importance of building bridges between SMEs, investors, and institutions to unlock the potential of emerging markets like Cambodia.

The participation of high-ranking representatives from the Royal Government of Cambodia, including Senior Minister H.E. Dr. Sok Siphana, reinforced Cambodia’s visibility within the broader ASEAN–Italy framework. His presence illustrated the country’s willingness to engage more closely with Italy on issues ranging from investment and trade to innovation, education, and cultural cooperation. Moments such as this highlight how multi-country dialogues serve not only as networking opportunities but also as diplomatic tools that help smaller economies position themselves within global economic conversations.

Held under the patronage of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the Italian Embassy in Vietnam, and the Consulate General of Italy in Ho Chi Minh City, the event once again demonstrated that Italy’s engagement with ASEAN is not episodic but strategic and structured. Forums like the High Level Dialogue provide a rare setting where leaders, experts, and entrepreneurs can discuss long-term visions and immediate challenges with equal seriousness. At a time of global uncertainty, such platforms become essential, offering countries like Italy and those of ASEAN a way to align interests, foster innovation, and strengthen economic resilience through partnership rather than competition.

As ASEAN continues to rise as one of the world’s most vibrant economic regions, Italy’s consistent participation in these dialogues sends a clear message: collaboration, shared growth, and mutual respect remain at the core of its approach to ASEAN. The 9th edition of the Dialogue only reaffirms how valuable this annual forum has become for shaping the future of Italy–ASEAN relations, Cambodia included.
