In a recent interview from Venice, Italy, Gabriele Faja, newly elected Chairman of EuroCham Cambodia, shared his vision for the organization and reflected on his early experiences in the role. Faja, who is also leading ItaCham, emphasized the importance of unity, SME engagement, and stronger advocacy in navigating Cambodia’s evolving business landscape.
Faja’s leadership at ItaCham—where he revamped the chapter’s statute and boosted membership with the support of the Chapter’s Board—prepared him for the complex structure of EuroCham, which represents over 430 companies and includes seven national chapters and twelve sectoral committees. To be noted that ItaCham has rapidly emerged as the third-largest national chapter within EuroCham, following the French and British chambers. This remarkable growth in membership is the result of the recent board’s dedicated efforts, which have revitalized the chapter and significantly expanded its reach and impact.
Faja’s initial weeks as Chairman of both ItaCham and EuroCham, have been marked by high-profile events, such as the Cambodia Global Textile Summit and key meetings with government officials, including H.E. Deputy Prime Minister Sun Chanthol. Looking ahead, Faja highlighted major challenges and opportunities, such as Cambodia’s upcoming graduation from Least Developed Country status, ongoing infrastructure expansion, and shifting global trade dynamics. He underscored EuroCham’s role in policy advocacy, trade promotion, and helping companies meet EU standards.
Key priorities for his tenure include enhancing cross-chapter cohesion, improving SME visibility, refreshing communications—starting with a new website—and increasing board involvement in strategic operations. He also aims to launch an Education Working Group to foster early connections between students and the business sector. With a clear vision and a collaborative approach, Faja plans to strengthen EuroCham’s impact and prepare it for the next phase of Cambodia’s economic development.
