On the morning of Wednesday, July 16, 2025, a significant milestone was set in motion as the Ministry of Public Works and Transport hosted a strategic discussion with ItaCham, national chapter within EuroCham Cambodia, and Nplus, an Italian firm part of the Giordano Riello International Group. The meeting was held as part of an ongoing effort to explore technological partnerships that can support the implementation of Cambodia’s Comprehensive Master Plan on Inter-Way Transport and Logistics System 2023–2033.
The meeting was attended by H.E. Son Sopheavattey, Director General of the Department of Logistics, alongside H.E. Chieng Pich, Deputy Secretary of the Ministry. Representing the Italian and European business community, Mr. Gabriele Faja, President of EuroCham Cambodia and Chairman of ItaCham, led the initiative, bringing together key officials, experts from Nplus Company, and representatives from relevant departments and directorates within the Ministry. At the event also the Vice Chairman of ItaCham and BoD member of EuroCham, Dr. Riccardo Corrado, Fabio Cardani, and Dr. Francesca Brighenti as representatives of Nplus.
Proposed by EuroCham and ItaCham, the session centered around the introduction of Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) technologies—a cutting-edge Italian innovation designed to transform how infrastructure is maintained and managed. Nplus, a leader in the field, presented their solutions to continuously monitor the structural integrity and usage patterns of critical infrastructure such as roads, bridges, and public buildings. This technology, already proven in international contexts, offers a real-time overview of load conditions, traffic stress, damage assessment, and potential safety risks. Through the implementation of SHM, the Ministry could gain new capabilities in predictive maintenance, traffic load analysis, overloading control, and risk prevention—aligning with Cambodia’s ambitions for a modern, sustainable, and resilient transport network over the next decade.
Mr. Faja emphasized the importance of fostering high-impact collaborations between Italian expertise and Cambodia’s development priorities. As Chairman of ItaCham, he underlined how initiatives like these reflect the Chamber’s commitment to promoting technology transfer, private sector innovation, and long-term partnerships between Italy and Cambodia. The Ministry welcomed the proposal with strong interest, recognizing the potential role of technology in supporting the goals of the national master plan. As Cambodia enters a new era of infrastructure development, the meeting represents a promising step toward enhanced cooperation between public institutions and international industry leaders.
ItaCham remains dedicated to serving as a platform for Italian businesses to contribute to Cambodia’s growth and modernization. Through proactive engagement with ministries and business networks, it continues to play a vital role in building bridges—both literally and metaphorically—between the two nations.
